Radisson Moves into Playa Caracol
In the latest sign of growing international interest in Playa Caracol, U.S. hotel giant Radisson is taking over operations of the Surfside Hotel, the popular beachfront resort.
Now known as the Radisson Riviera Panama, the facility is billed as “the most complete water sports and fun destination in the Panamanian Pacific, where the beach, waves, and mountains come together in one place.” As part of the move to Radisson, the property has received $19 million in new investment, according to Choice Hotels, the owner of the Radisson brand.
The investment is the latest evidence that Playa Caracol is now on the global property map. Last year’s announcement that Margaritaville was developing its first Panama resort in Playa Caracol has brought the spotlight to Playa Caracol and the Chame region, a beautiful eco-paradise only an hour’s drive from Panama City.
The activity in Playa Caracol has been compared to the early days of Tulum in Mexico or beach destinations in Costa Rica, where the public suddenly discovered the area and the market took off.
The Radisson’s involvement in Playa Caracol ensures the region is about to receive promotional support from an internationally recognized brand. Radisson has hotels in more than 10 countries, with 10 distinct bands.
“Surfside takes a new step!” the resort announced on Instagram. “We are starting a new chapter and want to write it with you.”
The new Surfside has helped establish Playa Caracol as the centerpiece of the new Panama Riviera. A mix of top resort amenities and professional meeting space has helped bring international-level standards to Playa Caracol, which offers top surfing, fishing, and birdwatching access.
Radisson already has an established presence in Panama with hotels in Panama City, the Panama Canal, and Colon.
