Panama’s New Real Estate Gold Rush
Something big is happening in Panama real estate. There’s a new gold rush starting and it is happening on the west coast.
We’ve all seen it before. In Costa Rica, the Caribbean, Spain, and Dubai — markets reach a critical mass and then they simply explode.
All the elements are in place for Panama’s west coast — pristine beaches, tropical coves, and the beauty of one of the world’s great coastal regions. There is already infrastructure and a property market in place — the West Coast is not exactly new or undiscovered — but it’s like a light bulb turned on and now everybody gets it.
Several things are happening right now. International buyers and investors, tired of the same old spots, are discovering the area in increasing numbers. There is easy access from Panama City, especially compared to quiet beach destinations in the Caribbean and Costa Rica, which is a big plus. Shrewd buyers also see access to the area as about to take a big leap forward, with a fourth bridge over the Panama Canal in advanced stages of development and increasing air service to Rio Hato.
At the same time, the Panama government has made eco-tourism a key priority for tourism promotion, and the West is the gateway to the country’s natural beauty. Some of the best fishing, hiking, bird watching, surfing and whale watching are accessible from the coastline.
Developers and financiers are taking notice and launching game-changing projects. The numbers make sense. The market is there. They see the opportunity. There are only so many places where the jungle meets the sand.
When buyers discover a new area like this, it’s like a floodgate has been opened up. People want to get in on the ground floor. They don’t want to miss out.
Take a look at the level of projects we’ve helped launch in recent months.
Margaritaville Beach Resort & Residences Playa Caracol brings Margaritaville’s trademark brand of fun, relaxation, and escapism to a pristine beach 70 minutes from Panama City. It’s the first development in Panama by Margaritaville and a big vote of confidence for the region.
Vervana Hotel & Residences is one of the most spectacular nature-based residential developments you’ll ever find. It is near Playa Venao, a peaceful getaway spot for surfers and digital nomads. The project is developed by Chagres Capital and the Mexican hospitality company, Hamak Hotels, a Mexican company with a 20-year track record of operating one-of-kind, environmentally sensitive boutique developments.
Surfside is a mixed development in Playa Caracol, developed by Grupo Los Pueblos, the respected Panamanian developer behind Ocean Reef Islands. Surfside is a turnkey, apartment-hotel opportunity, a great example of the mix of developments going into the area.
Interest in these developments has been sky-high. The market hits that inflection point when it’s ready to take off.
Right now, we’re in the infancy of the next gold rush. When word spreads in international markets, homes in this wave of new development will disappear quickly.
